Out in Ooltewah, the Mountain Oaks Manor is a quaint spot for a small wedding or a weekday luncheon.

But more than a century ago, its floral tea rooms and modest banquet hall hosted a different clientele: judges, juries, prisoners.

From 1913 to 1919, the building served as the courthouse for James County - the only county in Tennessee history to disappear.
