Edwards Point is a popular hiking spot on Signal Mountain in Chattanooga.

Thousands of people hike from Rainbow Lake to enjoy it each year.

But only recently has Edwards Point received official protection, thanks to the purchase of 32 acres by the Tennessee River Gorge Trust, the conservation nonprofit formed forty years ago.

The purchase secures access to public trails, including the Cumberland Trail.

Rick Huffines is executive director of the Tennessee River Gorge Trust.
