WUTC’s New Program Schedule - Featuring More Live, Local Music for Chattanooga

After months of careful planning and community input, WUTC is making these adjustments to better serve its mission of informing, educating, and entertaining its listeners. Audience feedback revealed a strong demand for locally produced music programs, as well as a need for more consistency in programming blocks throughout the day. These changes will help deliver a smoother transition between content, reducing frequent shifts between music and talk.

Why are you making these changes?

At WUTC, we continually assess our programming to best serve our mission of informing, educating, and entertaining the lives of our listeners. Our most recent evaluation — based on feedback from our community and members, consultations with our experienced hosts, and a review of audience trends — revealed a strong demand for locally produced music shows. It also showed that frequent shifts between music and talk formats during the daytime were not effectively serving either audience. By creating more consistent blocks of music and news programming, we are enhancing the listening experience for all our listeners.

What is changing?

We strive to provide entertaining and informative programming. To enhance your listening experience, we’re making slight adjustments to our schedule, including increasing the number of locally produced shows, expanding timeslots for some of our most popular local programs, and creating more consistent blocks of content for our NPR and other nationally produced shows.

Are the National Public Radio programs going away?

Absolutely not. Our commitment to being a trusted source of news and information as the NPR Member Station for Chattanooga and the Tennessee Valley has not changed. Our flagship NPR programs like Morning Edition, All Things Considered, and Fresh Air are not moving — in fact, some are expanding. The timeslots of other news and music programs may change slightly so that we can create a more consistent listening experience.

Will I still be able to hear my favorite programs?

WUTC’s flagship programs will continue at their regular times, including NPR’s Morning Edition, All Things Considered, Fresh Air, and more. Richard Winham will continue hosting The Richard Winham Show weekdays from 10 AM to 12 PM. Scenic Roots with Ray Bassett remains on weekdays at 3 PM, and The Haley Solomon Show will now air weekdays from 1 PM to 3 PM in its new timeslot.

Some of the new shows joining our programming schedule:

· Tuesday Bluesday with Jhett Black

· Grateful Dead Monday featuring Chants In The Void

· Scenic Sounds with Alex Volz

· Night Drive with Sara Mirucki

· Go Fact Yourself! from Maximum Fun and LAist

We’re excited to welcome Please Be Quiet, Please back to the WUTC airwaves! The show is hosted by Josh and Jeremy Pickard.

How will this change help WUTC serve Chattanooga and the Tennessee Valley?

This change will create a more consistent listening experience while providing WUTC with more opportunities to bring local voices to the airwaves. Our investment in local programming will also help support upcoming initiatives aimed at reaching new and diverse audiences.

How can I listen to WUTC?

WUTC can be found on 88.1 FM in Chattanooga, as well as parts of Georgia, Alabama, and North Carolina.

You can stream on our website wutc.org, the WUTC app (available on iOS and Android) — and via smart speaker by asking it to "Play WUTC."

Why can’t I hear the HD-1 and HD-2 broadcasts?

WUTC’s studios have temporarily moved to a new space on campus while our permanent home undergoes an exciting renovation, which we look forward to sharing with our members soon. During this transition, our HD signals are temporarily unavailable. We hope to provide an update soon on the return of our HD-1 and HD-2 signals.
