Events Planned Starting 9/21 For Tennessee River Rescue's 25th Anniversary

Tennessee River Rescue

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Tennessee River Rescueorganizers will host an art contest, throw a party, and expect more volunteers than ever to help clean up the Tennessee River and its watershed.

Students from the Art Department of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga have been challenged to produce art from recycled or found objects.  Winners will be chosen by public voting through the facebook pages of the Tennessee River Rescue and the Tennessee Aquarium.  There will be cash prizes.

On Saturday, September 21, 2013 there will be a party to celebrate 25 years of volunteers cleaning up the banks of the Tennessee River.  The grassroots movement that began a quarter of a century ago has grown almost every year and now includes clean up zones ranging from Cleveland to South Pittsburgh.  The party is at Outdoor Chattanooga from 1:00 to 3:00 pm.

Saturday October 5, 2013 the dumpsters will be in place and zone leaders will be handing out bags, gloves, and t-shirts to the volunteers that spend at last 2 hours in the clean up efforts between 9:00 am and 1:00 pm.  If you plan to bring a large group to a zone please contact your zone leader so they can be prepared.  Zones include river front areas, creeks and other watershed portions that impact the river.  There are boats that will cruise along the banks to gather trash that can't be accessed by foot.  A list of the zones and contact information for zone leaders is available online.  The Tennessee River Rescue is the first Saturday of October and organized in partnership with  the Tennessee Aquarium.

Rabbit has been on the air at WUTC since 1993.
