In 1983, more than twenty-five years ago, nurses and caregivers at San Francisco General Hospital opened “Ward 5B” - the first ward in the world for AIDS patients.
Their work changed how those patients were cared for during the early years of the AIDS epidemic in the 1980’s.
Now, a documentary - titled, “5B” - tells that story, and it will be screened here in Chattanooga this weekend to mark World AIDS Day.
Cliff Morrison - one of the nurses at San Francisco General who founded Ward 5B - will speak at Sunday’s event, which starts at 1 PM at Saint Mark’s United Methodist Church.
The Southeast Tennessee Community HIV / AIDS Partnership is hosting the gathering.
