The loss of grasslands here in the Southeast threatens the biodiversity of this region.
A partnership of researchers, conservationists and industry is now studying those grasslands - above all, how to restore and rebuild them.
Their effort is called the Southeastern Grasslands Initiative - based at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee.
Dr. Dwayne Estes is a biology professor at the university - and the Initiative’s executive director.
