In 1949, Seamour and Gerte Shavin hoped to build their dream home on Missionary Ridge, but when the architect abruptly left the project, they had to find a replacement, and so they went to the library to research architects.
Now, Frank Lloyd Wright was already an international celebrity when he received a humble letter from the Shavins in Chattanooga, and so it was somewhat surprising when he replied.
The Shavins would be invited to meet with Wright as he drew up new designs for their new home, and he sent his apprentice to oversee its construction.
In 1991, the American Institute of Architects named Frank Lloyd Wright the greatest architect of all time, and the house that he built in Chattanooga still stands today.
