Tai Chi Chuan - developed centuries ago and practiced worldwide to this day - is a martial art and a healing art.

The movements of Tai Chi - dynamic, gentle and flowing - benefit both mind and body.

Dr. Zibin Guo, a Tai Chi master, is a professor of medical anthropology here on our campus - the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

For years, he has adapted traditional knowledge of Tai Chi to make it accessible and beneficial for vulnerable populations.

Since 2016, he has conducted Tai Chi instructional training for health care providers at VA medical centers.

His book - “Adaptive Tai Chi: An Accessible Practice for Empowering Body and Mind,” published by Shambala - offers modified practices from the discipline for people with different physical abilities and restrictions - including conventional standing and moving, stationary standing, seated, single movement and wheelchair sequences.
