(Aired Weds 1/07/26)

In 2024, voters in Nashville overwhelmingly approved a half cent increase in the sales tax to create dedicated funding for city transit that will improve buses, traffic signals, sidewalks and bike lanes.

Erin Hafkenschiel worked on transit projects at Vanderbilt University and for two Nashville mayors - including on a failed referendum in 2018 that would have funded a mass transit system for the city.

Today, she is executive director of Think Tennessee, a statewide thinktank - and this past June, she came to Chattanooga to give a talk at CIVIQ, the speaker series presented by Chattanooga Design Studio, at the downtown Chattanooga Public Library.

On this episode of “Scenic Roots,” we bring you that talk - titled, “Transit and Mobility: Lessons Learned From Nashville.”
