(Aired Thu 4/09/26)

Mac Barnett is passionate about children’s picture books.

A bestselling author of stories for children, Mac is also the writer - with Jon Klassen - of Looking at Picture Books, a newsletter for adults about picture books.

These days, Mac serves as the U.S. National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature - appointed by the Library of Congress and Every Child a Reader, a literacy nonprofit.

He’s now visiting Chattanooga, the first stop of his nationwide tour of five communities to engage readers through his picture book initiative.

I spoke with him at the downtown Chattanooga Public Library - along with Lee Hope, the Library’s assistant director of youth services and community engagement.
