Kelly Finnigan Talks Solo Album, Touring, and His Music Roots

Mitch LaGrow

Summing up Kelly Finnigan isn’t easy.

He’s a bandleader, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, producer, and arranger. For over a decade, he’s been a driving force behind the Bay Area psych-soul band Monophonics. His late father, Mike Finnigan, was an in-demand West Coast session player whose career spanned from the 1960s onward.

WUTC’s Doug Cook, host of The Supersonic Soul Show, caught Kelly’s solo performance at Yellow Racket Records in December 2024 — and joined him onstage for a post-show conversation.

We’re revisiting that interview as Finnigan and his band, The Atonements, ride the momentum of a recent European tour and a summer appearance at the Montreal Jazz Festival.

Tour dates, news at more at kellyfinnigan.com.
