Juliette Derricotte

In 1931, a Black woman injured in a car accident died after she was refused care at a segregated hospital in Dalton during the Jim Crow era.

Her name was Juliette Derricotte.

Today, the Whitfield Remembrance Project in Dalton, inspired by the Equal Justice Initiative, tells her story - including through a community call for art.

This summer, I spoke with the Project’s Sam Gowin and Valerie Silva.
