"Scenic Roots" offers conversations that matter in the heart of Chattanooga and the Tennessee Valley. From the mountains to the river, our conversations are rooted deep within every corner of our community - reflecting who we are, who we were and who we can become. We engage with the news that affects our community, behind and beyond the headlines. We build bridges that span from creators and innovators to storytellers and the outdoors. We focus on our challenges as many communities in one - as we celebrate what inspires us. We resonate with countless voices - in words and spaces, sounds and songs. We are "Scenic Roots."Ray Bassett hosts and produces "Scenic Roots" at WUTC.

“Do you believe we have more in common than what divides us?”

“Who have been the most influential people in your life? What did they teach you?

“Is there someone you disagree with - but still love or respect?”

“What are your hopes for the future?”

Those are some of the questions asked, one conversation at a time, in “One Small Step” - a nationwide initiative of StoryCorps.

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga is one of six sites across the country selected to participate in this storytelling project - through the PodLab, the podcasting studio on our campus,

in collaboration with WUTC and community partners in this city and the Tennessee Valley.

Next week, Songbirds here in Chattanooga will host a listening party for One Small Step - on Thursday, December 8th starting at 6 PM.

Our colleague Will Davis is the outreach manager for the PodLab here at UTC.
