Juneteenth commemorates African-American emancipation in the United States after the Civil War.

Now a Federal holiday, it falls this year on Sunday, also Father’s Day.

On Saturday, the Unity Group of Chattanooga will lead the Juneteenth National Freedom Day Parade.

The lineup starts at 3 PM at Carver Recreation Center - and from there, the parade will proceed to Community Haven.

Eric Atkins is co-chairman of the Unity Group, which is hosting several events in Chattanooga this week ahead of Saturday’s parade.
