Jazz pianist Alan Broadbent will perform a solo piano concert on September 11 in the Hayes Concert Hall at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga's Fine Arts Performing Center. Ticket sales proceeds benefit WUTC 88.1 FM, Chattanooga's NPR station.
Alan Broadbent is well known for his work as a soloist, leader, composer and arranger. He accompanied a wide array of artists on recordings and in concert, including Charlie Haden's Quartet West, Chet Baker, Sheila Jordan, Bud Shank, Warne Marsh, Woody Herman's Thundering Herd, Irene Kral, Diane Schuur and many others. He also recorded and toured widely with Diana Krall and the late Natalie Cole. Alan is highly in demand as an arranger and conductor for large ensembles and string orchestras. He wrote and conducted for Marian McPartland, Diana Krall, Natalie Cole and Shirley Horn, winning two Grammy Awards.

The School of Journalism and Communication at Southern Adventist University invites community members to campus for the free R. Lynn Sauls lecture "The Art of Seeing Others Deeply: A Conversation With David Brooks" on Thursday, September 18, at 7 p.m. in Iles P.E. Center.
Following the annual keynote by this bestselling author, New York Times columnist, and recurring commentator on PBS NewsHour, the audience is invited to participate in a Q&A session with Brooks, moderated by Alison Lebovitz of Chattanooga's local station WTCI PBS and host of The A List.
